About Baca County Fair

The Baca County Fair in Springfield celebrates the dryland wheat farming county in the extreme southeastern Colorado corner where the Dust Bowl hit hardest — Baca County was one of the epicenters of the 1930s Dust Bowl, and the county's resilient farming families have maintained their agricultural traditions through a century of drought, grasshoppers, and economic hardship.

What to Expect

Expect livestock shows, 4-H and FFA competitions, wheat and dryland crop exhibits, rodeo events, local food vendors, and a fair celebrating the extraordinary resilience of southeastern Colorado's farming families.

Visitor Tips

Springfield's Baca County Historical Society museum preserves the Dust Bowl history. The Comanche National Grassland south of Springfield protects some of the most dramatic canyon country in Colorado and contains the world's largest concentration of dinosaur trackways at Picket Wire Canyonlands.
