About Prowers County Fair
Every year, Lamar hosts the Prowers County Fair, which celebrates the "Dove Hunting Capital of the Nation" — Prowers County's grain fields and the Arkansas River wetlands attract extraordinary numbers of mourning doves each fall, making Lamar one of the most significant hunting destinations on the Southern Plains, and the county's cattle, wheat, and corn production come together at a well-organized southeastern Colorado fair.
Visitor Tips
Lamar's Big Timbers Museum celebrates the massive cottonwood grove along the Arkansas River that was a landmark on the Santa Fe Trail. The Comanche National Grassland south of Lamar provides hunting and the Picketwire Canyon dinosaur trackways. Prowers County's waterfowl hunting on the Arkansas River draws hunters from across the country.
