The Oldest Fairs in Colorado

Held annually in Pueblo, the Colorado State Fair is the premier state fair of Colorado, held annually since 1869 at the Colorado State Fairgrounds — one of the longest-running state fairs in the American West. Its history stretches back to 1869, placing it among Colorado's oldest agricultural fairs. This 11-day event each late August through Labor Day draws hundreds of thousands of visitors from across the Rocky Mountain region to celebrate Colorado agriculture, culture, and western heritage.

In Castle Rock, the Douglas County Fair celebrates one of America's fastest-growing counties — the "Agate Capitol of America" and growing Denver south suburban corridor contains some of Colorado's finest horse ranches and equestrian communities alongside the rapidly expanding suburban development between Denver and Colorado Springs. It began in 1892 and has stayed a fixture of Colorado agricultural life for more than a century.

The Denver County Fair celebrated Colorado's state capital and largest city — Denver is the Mile High City where the Rocky Mountain Front rises dramatically from the Great Plains, and the county's urban agriculture movement, rooftop farms, community gardens, and thriving farm-to-table food culture connected the city to the rich agricultural heritage of the surrounding Colorado plains and mountains. Launched in 2011 with a quirky, art-forward take on the county fair tradition, it has been suspended indefinitely while organizers evaluate its future.
