About Sweet Grass County Fair
The Sweet Grass County Fair in Big Timber celebrates a south-central Montana county where the Boulder River and the Crazy Mountains define some of the most dramatic scenery in the Northern Rockies — Big Timber's wool ranching heritage gave the county its name (Sweet Grass refers to the native grass ideal for sheep grazing), and cattle and sheep ranching continue alongside the county's spectacular mountain landscape.
What to Expect
Expect livestock shows, 4-H and FFA competitions, wool and sheep exhibits reflecting the county's ranching heritage, local food vendors, and a fair drawing from the Big Timber area and the surrounding Boulder River ranching community.
Visitor Tips
Big Timber sits along I-90 between Billings and Bozeman. The Crazy Mountains' jagged granite peaks rise dramatically north of town. The Boulder River's canyon and the Natural Bridge waterfall (highest free-standing waterfall in Montana) are spectacular natural attractions south of Big Timber.
