About Sequoyah County Free Fair
The Sequoyah County Free Fair in Sallisaw is an August fair in the Arkansas River valley country of eastern Oklahoma, named for the Cherokee scholar Sequoyah who developed the Cherokee syllabary and whose cabin is preserved just outside Sallisaw — one of the most important cultural sites in the history of Native American literacy.
What to Expect
Expect livestock shows, FFA and 4-H competitions, local food vendors, and a community fair in the Arkansas River bottom and Cookson Hills country of the Five Civilized Tribes heritage region.
Visitor Tips
Sallisaw is defined by the Sequoyah legacy — Sequoyah's Cabin State Historic Site preserves the home where the inventor of the Cherokee writing system lived, and the Robert S. Kerr Reservoir and Tenkiller Ferry Lake nearby offer outstanding eastern Oklahoma water recreation.
