Local Tips
Minden is on US-395 in the Carson Valley, about 15 miles south of Carson City and 45 miles south of Reno. The valley is beautiful in summer — combine with a visit to Genoa (Nevada's oldest permanent settlement) and a drive along the eastern Sierra Nevada front. The Tahoe Basin is just over the mountains.
The Fair
In Minden, the Douglas County Fair and Rodeo celebrates the ranching and agricultural traditions of Nevada's Carson Valley — the lush green valley tucked between the Sierra Nevada and the Great Basin, just south of Carson City. Douglas County is Nevada's most scenic agricultural county, and the fair showcases the valley's proud ranching heritage.
What You'll Find There
Livestock and rodeo competitions, agricultural and home arts exhibits, 4-H and FFA shows, carnival rides, live entertainment, and fair food. The Carson Valley setting — with views of Jobs Peak and the Sierra Nevada — gives this fair one of the most spectacular backdrops of any Nevada fair.
