About Ontonagon County Fair
The Ontonagon County Fair in Ontonagon celebrates a western Upper Peninsula county on Lake Superior where copper mining, logging, and the Porcupine Mountains define a remote and beautiful landscape — the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park contains one of the largest old-growth forests in the eastern United States, and small farming and fishing communities maintain their traditions in one of Michigan's most remote counties.
What to Expect
Expect livestock shows, 4-H competitions, logging and mining heritage exhibits, local food vendors, and the tight-knit community spirit of a western Upper Peninsula county where the Porcupine Mountains and Lake Superior define the landscape.
Visitor Tips
Ontonagon is the gateway to the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park — "The Porkies" are one of the finest wilderness areas in the eastern United States, with over 90 miles of trails and the spectacular Lake of the Clouds overlook. The Ontonagon Boulder — a famous copper mass — was moved from the county to the Smithsonian Institution in 1843.
