About Grant Parish Fair

The Grant Parish Fair in Colfax celebrates a central Louisiana piney woods parish where the Colfax Massacre of 1873 — the deadliest episode of Reconstruction-era racial violence — took place at the Grant Parish courthouse, and where timber and cattle farming define the contemporary economy of the Red River hills.

Visitor Tips

The Colfax Massacre National Historic Landmark commemorates the Easter Sunday 1873 attack on Black citizens defending the Grant Parish courthouse, in which over 100 people were killed. Kisatchie National Forest Catahoula Ranger District provides recreation in the longleaf pine hills.
