About West Texas Fair & Rodeo
The West Texas Fair & Rodeo at the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene is an eight-day September celebration serving the Big Country of West Central Texas, the premier fair event for the Abilene metro area and the surrounding counties of the rolling West Texas plains. It's gathered Texas communities together since 1938.
What to Expect
Expect PRCA rodeo competition, livestock shows, FFA and 4-H competitions, carnival rides, grandstand entertainment, demolition derby, and a full fair midway serving the ranching, farming, and military communities of West Central Texas.
Visitor Tips
Abilene is home to three universities (Abilene Christian, McMurry, and Hardin-Simmons), Dyess Air Force Base, and the National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature — the Frontier Texas! experience, the Grace Museum, and Buffalo Gap Historic Village outside town preserve an exceptional West Texas heritage.
