The Topsfield Fair is one of America's oldest agricultural fairs, established in 1818 by the Essex Agricultural Society — the same year as the Skowhegan State Fair in Maine. Dating to 1818, it is one of Massachusetts's oldest and most enduring agricultural fair traditions. Held annually at the Topsfield Fairgrounds in Essex County, this 11-day fair is a beloved North Shore of Massachusetts tradition drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors each October.

What to Expect

Championship livestock competitions across all species, world-record giant vegetable competitions (the biggest pumpkins in the world compete here!), championship horse shows, carnival midway, live entertainment, 4-H and agricultural exhibits, craft fair, commercial vendors, and classic New England fair food. The giant vegetable competition is world-famous.

Visitor Tips

Located at 207 Boston Street in Topsfield, about 25 miles north of Boston, easily accessible from I-95/Route 1. The Topsfield Fair is one of the best fall events on the North Shore. The giant pumpkin weigh-off is a spectacular and unique event. Purchase tickets online to skip gate lines. October weather in Massachusetts can be crisp — bring layers for evening events.
