Newton County Pun'kin Vine Fair Overview
Newton County's seat of Covington has become known as the "Hollywood of the South," serving as the filming location for The Vampire Diaries, In the Heat of the Night, and dozens of other film and television productions drawn by its perfectly preserved antebellum courthouse square. The Pun'kin Vine Fair name traces back to an 1882-1888 Patron & Farmer's Agricultural Fair on the same grounds, per a Georgia historical marker. Today the fair is run by American Legion Post 32 -- its 87th edition was canceled just one day before its planned May 2026 opening after the carnival ride company backed out, with organizers hoping to return in a future year.
