About Kodiak Island Borough Fair

The Kodiak Island Borough Fair in Kodiak celebrates the second-largest island in the United States — the Kodiak Archipelago's commercial fishing fleet is one of Alaska's most significant, and the Kodiak brown bear (the largest bear subspecies on Earth) defines the island's character, along with the Alutiiq (Sugpiaq) people's extraordinary cultural heritage and the Russian Orthodox heritage from the first permanent Russian settlement in Alaska (1784).

What to Expect

Expect community exhibits, commercial fishing industry displays, Kodiak brown bear and wildlife exhibits, Alutiiq cultural demonstrations, local food vendors with extraordinary Kodiak crab and seafood, and the adventurous spirit of Alaska's "Emerald Isle."

Visitor Tips

The Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge protects 1.9 million acres and 3,500 Kodiak brown bears. The Alutiiq Museum preserves one of Alaska's most important Indigenous cultural collections. The Coast Guard Base Kodiak is the largest Coast Guard base in the US. The Alutiiq people's connection to these islands goes back at least 7,500 years.
