About Bristol Bay Borough Fair
The Bristol Bay Borough Fair in Naknek celebrates the world's greatest wild salmon run — Bristol Bay's sockeye salmon fishery is the largest on Earth, producing tens of millions of sockeye each summer and sustaining the world's most significant commercial salmon fishing fleet, alongside the Yupik, Aleut, and Dena'ina peoples who have fished these waters since ancient times.
What to Expect
Expect a small community fair with commercial fishing exhibits, salmon processing industry displays, Alaska Native cultural heritage exhibits, fresh Bristol Bay sockeye food vendors, and the extraordinary community spirit of one of the world's most significant fishing regions.
Visitor Tips
Naknek is the home base of the Bristol Bay salmon fleet. The Kvichak River's sockeye run through Lake Iliamna is one of the most spectacular natural phenomena in Alaska. Katmai National Park's Brooks Camp bear viewing — where brown bears catch sockeye salmon at Brooks Falls — is one of Alaska's most iconic wildlife experiences.
