About Pickens County Fair
The Pickens County Fair in Carrollton is an August fair in the rolling Black Belt country of west Alabama, celebrating the cattle, catfish, and cotton heritage of a county famous for the "Face in the Courthouse Window" — a mysterious image supposedly left by lightning of Henry Wells, who was accused of burning the courthouse in 1876, visible in the window glass to this day.
What to Expect
Expect livestock shows, FFA and 4-H competitions, local food vendors, and a community fair in the rolling hill country transitioning to the Black Belt prairies of west Alabama.
Visitor Tips
Carrollton is the Pickens County seat — the mysterious Face in the Courthouse Window (a genuine historical curiosity, whatever its explanation) and the Aliceville Lake and Gainesville Lock and Dam on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway define the character of this remote west Alabama county.
